Ram Thapa

Ram Thapa (1958–2008) was a pioneering Nepali folk singer, music director, and Radio Nepal presenter known for his humorous and socially conscious songs. Born in Kamalpokhari, Kathmandu, he began his musical career in 1974 and became a 7th Grade Music Director at Radio Nepal. He sang over 150 folk songs and directed music for more than 200, with hits like Thok Na Madal Thok, Timi Yesai Lajayau, and Ritu Haruma Timi, which was ranked 7th by BBC in 2003. He was the first to publish Nepali music books with lyrics and chords, contributing to music education. Ram Thapa also served as a judge on Nepali Tara I & II, mentoring young talent. He passed away in 2008 due to liver disease.

Deep Shrestha is a Nepalese singer and musician of Nepal. Deep Shrestha is one of the coaches in The Voice of Nepal Season 1 (2018) and 2 (2019). Jhaskiyecha Maan Mero, Biteka Kura Le and Ma Ta Door Dekhi Aye are some of his popular songs. Shrestha was active in the field of music for another decade. Then, slowly, he began stopped singing. He was busy with his own official work and in his own words, 'did not feel like recording new songs.' Time moved on. The Nepalese music industry expanded and started to witness professionalism. Technology improved and so did Shrestha's feelings. The singer who had a habit of singing with old technology in his good old days was fascinated by the vast improvement in technology.

Jerusha Rai is a Nepali indie singer-songwriter and music producer known for her experimental fusion of traditional Nepali folk sounds with contemporary pop, rock, and electronic influences. Born in Kathmandu, she attended St. Mary’s Secondary School and was immersed in Nepali folk music and instruments. Rai relocated to London for university studies and became involved with the Nepali diaspora music scene. Her self-released EP “We All Make Mistapes” gained attention, and her debut album “A Dark Place to Think” (2016) showcased her evocative songwriting. Her second album, “Sunsaan” (2019), explored Nepal’s political turmoil and mental health issues. Rai celebrates her indigenous Kiranti roots and uses music as a medium of healing. In 2023, she mysteriously disappeared after leaving her Kathmandu home without her phone, shocking Nepal’s music scene where she had been praised as a pioneering female indie artist and powerful creative voice. 🎵🌟
