Babu Krishna Pariyar

Buddhi Bahadur Pariyar was a gifted Nepali folk composer whose song “Resham Firiri” became a cultural anthem. Born in Pokhara, Pariyar grew up immersed in the rhythms of village life. In 1972, he composed “Resham Firiri Resham Firiri”, inspired by the hills and daily joys of Nepali people. The song was recorded in 1974 by Sunder Shrestha and Dwarika Lal Joshi, and quickly gained national fame. Its catchy tune and relatable lyrics made it a favorite among street performers, travelers, and diaspora communities. Despite its popularity, Pariyar remained largely uncredited, highlighting the struggles of folk creators in Nepal’s music industry. His work reflects the soul of Nepali folk traditions—simple, melodic, and deeply rooted in lived experience. “Resham Firiri” continues to echo across generations, symbolizing the enduring charm of Nepal’s musical heritage.

Kalyan Sherchan was a Nepali folk singer and composer known for his contribution to lok‑geet and traditional Nepali music. His works, many of which were broadcast through Radio Nepal, reflect the emotional storytelling and melodic simplicity that define classic Nepali folk traditions. Sherchan wrote and composed songs such as “Mai Dukhilai Ja Basyo Ui Ramro” and contributed to several lok‑geet recordings that remain popular in rural and urban Nepali communities. His music continues to be covered by contemporary artists, preserving his legacy as a respected figure in Nepal’s folk music heritage. Sherchan passed away on 7 February 2011.

Nisha Sunar is a well-known Nepali singer who has made significant contributions to the Nepali music industry, particularly in the genre of folk and dohori songs. She has a strong presence in the music scene and is known for her powerful voice and engaging performances. Some of her popular songs include: “Nabhana Bideshi” with Prakash Saput "Bindass Teej" Nisha Sunar is also recognized for her stage performances and music videos, often featuring top actors from Nepali cinema. She is married to Shankar BC, a prominent dancer and choreographer in Nepal, and they have a daughter together.

Prakash Saput Known for his modern folk songs, most recently the hugely popular ‘Galbandi’, Prakash Saput is an artist of many talents – singer, composer, song writer, and producer. In the music field since the last one and half decades, he is most famed for his ‘Dohori Battles’, a modern rendition of the traditional ‘Dohori’ songs where one party sings and the other indulges in witty ripostes and repartees.
