Shiva Shankar Manandhar (1932–2004) was a legendary figure in Nepali music and cinema, celebrated for his versatility as a singer, composer, and actor. Born in Newroad, Kathmandu, to a musically inclined Newar family, his early exposure to classical Newari songs through his father, Man Bahadur, laid the foundation for his lifelong devotion to music. He joined Radio Nepal in 1951, where he collaborated with Nati Kaji to shape the golden era of Nepali music. Over his prolific career, he composed around 1,200 songs and sang nearly 300, spanning genres like love ballads, bhajans, patriotic anthems, and tragic melodies. His compositions for artists such as Narayan Gopal, Tara Devi, and Aruna Lama remain timeless. 🎬 In cinema, Shiva Shankar played the lead role of Lahure Dai in Aama (1964), Nepal’s first feature film. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a prolific music arranger, having worked on a wide range of projects—from devotional compositions to film scores. Notably, he contributed to the Guinness World Record-holding song “Melancholy” and arranged music for Nepali films like Timi Sanga and Ma Yesto Geet Gauchu 2. Sunil Singh Thakuri's passion for music ignited during his school years, where he began by mimicking popular singers. Encouraged by friends and family who recognized his vocal talent, he transitioned from casual performances to a professional music career. His debut song, "Mutuma Timilai", marked the beginning of his journey as a recording artist. This track laid the foundation for his first solo album, "Crazy Hat", released in 2007. The album featured a mix of love and emotional songs, with "Bhuli Bhuli Deu" earning a nomination for Best New Artist at the 10th Annual Tuborg Image Awards. Building on this success, Sunil released his second album, "Crazy Hat 2 – Ghatana Ghatyo", in 2008. The title track, "Ghatana Ghatyo", became a significant hit, showcasing his versatility and deepening his presence in the Nepali music scene. The song's popularity was bolstered by its engaging music video, which resonated with audiences nationwide. In recent years, Sunil has continued to evolve as an artist, releasing several singles that reflect his growth and adaptability. Notable among these are: "Sustari" "Baby Sunana" "Ghanta Jasto Love" "Nagoya Song" These tracks demonstrate his ability to blend traditional Nepali musical elements with contemporary styles, appealing to a broad audience.
